Sometimes an easy way to tell if it the culprit is Outlook is to open it in
safe mode:
Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe
This disables any intgration/interference in Outlook from Add Ins, third
party applications, etc.
In addition, checking your Application Event Viewer for any Outlook and/or
Office errors is helpful too.
