Have Outlook 2002 that I have been using for a number of years. For some
reason all of the sudden, I cannot open my messages. E-Mail is downloaded
from the server just fine, but when I click on the message title in my inbox,
I get nothing. I also cannot open a new message for sending. Have tried
right clicking on the messages, and have tried opening Outlook in safe mode.
Have even tried to go back to a restore point on my system......Something
else interesting...I have a RSS reader that loads into Outlook that I have
used for some time. I CAN bring up the RSS messages, but cannot bring up my
regular E-Mail. Very Strange......help please ! Thanks.

Do you not have an outlook.pst or .pst by another name that holds your
current emails, appointments, etc.?

There are several things you can try, but do them one at a time and test
Outlook inbetween so you know if one of them solved the problem.
1) Run detect and repair from the Help menu
2) Run scanpst.exe against your outlook.pst file. If it encounters errors,
you may have to run it several times until it no longer reports any.
3) Create a new profile for Outlook to use and simply have Outlook point to
your existing outlook.pst (use File > Open):

Thanks for the suggestions.......I'll have to try this later. I'm running a
virus scan now just in case. I don't think that is the issue, but I thought
it won't hurt.

I'll let you know.

Kathleen :

Tried #1 - run and detect....now I can't bring up Outlook at all. By that,
I mean that it comes up, but minimizes itself on the taskbar. I cannot
restore it from there. I can't do anything with it at this point. I tried
#2 (scanpst) and that showed no errors.....that is where I am at right now.

Open Outlook in safe mode: Start > Run > Outlook.exe /safe
Let me know if that opens it. Then close Outlook and try to open it as usual
to see if that has made a difference.
You may want to create a new profile for Outlook to use, it could be that
your old profile corrupted.

Hi Kathleen :

I have tried many differrnt things......finally tried uninstalling and
reinstalling outlook....nothing doing there either. Then I noticed that I
was having the same problem with MS WORD. So I just completely uninstalled
OFFICE and reinstalled everything. Still having the same problems with WORD
and OUTLOOK. Everything else in OFFICE seems to work okay. Any more
suggestions ?
