I am unable to open attachments that are text files (i.e., those attachments
that appear with a yellow envelope). I am using Outlook 2003. I am unable
to open the attachments on my main desktop computer BUT can open them on my
laptop. Perplexing. Sounds like a setting of some sort but I have not been
able to find one. Can open picture (e.g., .jpeg) files OK.

The attachment that appears as an envelope is a forwarded email. If you're
using Outlook 2003 and have Google Desktop Search installed, GDS is the
culprit. Uninstall it and the problem is solved. The latest version of GDS
causes this problem with Outlook 2003 SP3.

How do I Uninstall the latest version of Google Desktop Search without
messing up my Google Search?

You can also remove the integration with Outlook or upgrade to the latest
version of GDS.
