Cannot open attachments in outlook

One of our customers has a problem where they try to open
an attachment in outlook, but are returned with an error
which just says "cannot open this file".

This happens with ANY attachment. However, if you save the
attachment, you can then open it. The day before, this was
not happening. Any ideas on why they cannot open
attachments now, when they could yesterday?
