Cannot open attachment created in Microsoft works

's Computer Specifications

I cannot open attachment created in the form of a word document. Message is
that the document may be in use by other application or server may not be
installed or file may be corrupted. I am able to open attached pictures.
Why I cannot open attached word documents?

I'm not sure what extension Microsoft Works uses.

Can you save the attachment and open it outside of Windows Mail?
