Cannot open any program file on the desktop or in the program grou

I cannot open any program or executable file on my computer. When I double
click nothing happens; no error message or anything. I thought it was the
SirCam virus or the PrettyPark worm which prevent you from running exe files
by corrupting the exefile association in the registry; but that doesn't seem
to be the case. Can anybody help me to solve this problem?
