Cannot move cursor to insertion point when editing e-mail

I have recently reinstalled Outlook to Windows XP and am trying to edit an
e-mail message. In the past, I have been able to go back to a point in the
message, click the mouse to insert the cursor, and make my edits. Now, the
cursor will not insert where I click. I have to backspace all the way to
where I want to edit.

This is not happening in any other software. Why would this be happening?
