Cannot log onto site due to "too many pages" for FP

Our host is web.com (formerly Interland.com). Today I could not log onto our
site to update two pages, receiving the FP error message:

Unable to open <website>.com Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FPSE installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.

When I log on to our Control Panel and try to do a Fix/Check of the FPSE it
fails with a similar message. Our Email contact form is not working, so the
FPSE are broken (they worked yesterday). We do not connect through a proxy
server.

After this happened over several hours I called Web.com. Their tech support
(in Columbia, South America) told me FP has a size limit of 1000 pages and I
have 1054 pages.

I know from reading a posting by Ron Symonds ("Ronx") that FP has no page
limit (thanks, Ron!), so I am about to call them back and go another round
with them.

Can anyone suggest any cause for this that is my fault? Something I can do?
Or is the only thing I can do is convince Web.com to reboot the server,
etc.?

Thanks,
Gene

Even though FrontPage doesn't have a 'page limit', your host package usually
has a size limit. Is your site over the limit provided by your host?

In further talks with support I learned for the first time that they have
set a limit of 1000 files for a web site. Since FP generates so many files
(_vti, etc.) we are past our limit. We actually have over 2400 "files" on
the site. There would have been no problem if the FPSE had not failed on the
server--as long as they were running our site would have worked. Now that
they broke they cannot be reinstalled and we cannot access the site through
FP--according to Web.com.

I made two changes locally and uploaded them with FTP. But I am afraid I am
limited to modest changes to current pages until I can either get a new
hosting service or redesign the site to not use any FPSE features. If I try
to make structural changes I am afraid of breaking the site.

We have been with Web.com since 1997 and no one told us about this
limitation. I have no idea how many years we have had this many files in our
site, but this is the first time the problem arose.

Regards,
Gene

This is amazing, but the problem is resolved. After speaking with 2 support
reps and a sales rep who all told me there is a limit on the number of files
our site can have and there is NOTHING they can do to get the FrontPage
Server Extensions reinstalled on our server, nor can they provide another
service plan that allows us more files----I called the next day and a tech
support person reinstalled the FPSE in 3 minutes! Our site is working fine,
and all is well, except that Web.com cannot be recommended for its
reliability or tech support.

Thanks, Dan, for your suggestion.

Regards,
Gene
