I have several users sharing a patch updated xp sp2 pc that worked fine until
I installed ie 7. After that it frequently, but not every time will not let
users log off or shut down including the administrator. The screen flashes,
but nothing happens and you can continue to use applications as if you never
clicked the log off button. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling ie 7,
searching through ms knowledge base to no avail. I am not running norton
antivirus. I tried looking at the event viewer, but did not see anything
obvious. I have also tried ending all the non system processes listed in
task mgr except explorer one at a time to isolate a possible problem
application and that did n't work. The only way to change users when it
won't log them off is a power button reboot. It may be related to a lot of
internet browsing, but I am not sure as it is not consistent.

Andrew, go away. You are pitiful.

To the OP: Please post your question in the IE newsgroup. The IE experts
there will be able to help you.

I posted it there as you suggested, but no replies so far. I am not sure why
this is an IE issue though. Even though it occurred after I installed IE7,
the problem is in XP, not in browsing the internet. I would agree that
installing IE& probably corrupted something in XP. Also, I have seen nothing
in the knowledge base for any product that addresses this issue other than an
old instance when running a particular version of Norton antivirus. I saw
something regarding a "user hive cleanup service" in a download area of
microsoft's site that could be a fix, but I could not determine if this
applied to my situation or if it was related to being unable to log of a
server in an xp pc environment versus my situation of being unable to log off
as a user on a shared xp pc, not in a server environment.
