Hi,

My XP box will not log onto my Domain(logged in evnt log), yet everything
seems to work just fine. I can access all the shares on the server, get web
pages from the servers iis, and ping it(including by its FQDN).

The only way I can tell there is a problem is by looking at the event log
after a start up(see log msg below), and when I change my log in to be
name@domain I can not log in. I can if I just put my name, and select my
domain from the drop down on the login screen.

My DNS server is all setup, and the server is correctly entered against my
domain forward lookup.

The error in my XP log is :

Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network.
(The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted. ).
Group Policy processing aborted.

I had the same problem on my network with several machines. I'm not sure
what caused it but how I sorted it was to take the PC off the domain,
manually delete the PC frome Active Directory (wait for replication to other
DC's) then join the PC back onto the domain.

All was fine after this.

All the pre-existing domain profiles on the PC were fine also.

Cheers,

Jeff

Thanks

I only have one Server(03) which I figure would be a problem if I dropped
it, as per what you did

What version of XP? Home version can't join a domain.
