cannot load user accounts

Hello,Sunday I was running an antivirus scan when my laptop (a Compaq
Presario 2500) freezed.
I shut it down with the power key and since then I cannot start windows
XP,when I reach the screen with the windows logo and I select my account it
starts loading and then the account closes turning back to the Windows logo
page.The same happens if I try to start in safe mode and with any accounts.
Any idea on how to fix this?tks
