Get the latest Script engine.
Microsoft's Scripting download
Get the latest. Two download versions are available for Windows Script 5.6.
The first version requires Windows 2000, XP; the second version requires
Microsoft Windows 98, Millenium Edition (Me), or NT 4.0.

Keep in mind that the hosts file has no extension and can be hidden.

IE 6. Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions
If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
