I'm using Internet Explorer 6 (latest version with 128bit high
encryption) on WinXP SP2 machine and whenever I try to connect to a
particular web service offered from my bank I get this error (this
doesn't happen when I use a Win2000 machine):

Caused by: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.
at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source)
at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source)
at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
... 10 more

P.S.
I've 1.5.0_02 JVM From Sun

I've tried to add the bank site's address to the trusted ones with no
effect

You're going to need to get in touch with Sun Java's technical support.

Oh, and by the way, make sure you have the latest version of Sun Java
installed *AND* have uninstalled the old versions:
