yes, it is a clean install
I was using the 64-bit version and now that is correct however this is
another problem:
It gets stuck at "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD"
When I press a key, it does nothing.

I consider a clean install to be: the installation of an OS on either a
virginal HDD or a freshly (re)formatted HDD, not a multiple boot or over an
existing OS.

Perhaps you are not using a bootable CD?
Or, try a clean install!

Sorry, this is a complete fresh and clean install in a new partition on the
drive, and I have tested the CD's bootility on another computer and it works
fine but just not on that computer. I have booted from another CD before and
that worked fine.

I am now trying to install Server 2003 on the virtual pc I had created. but
it wont boot from the cd. It gets up to "Press any ket to boot from CD..."
then nothing happens. I have tired to burn the cd again onto another disk, re
downloaded it but no avail. Help me please.

Have you tried to boot from that CD on a different hardware computer?

When you get the same result, I would guess there is something wrong with
the CD.

If it works there, it might be a faulty CD-drive configuration in the
virtual machine.
