i have a windows 2000 server that cannot install any software using Windows
Installer. I have tried to download a new redistributable but I cannot get it
to work. I have tried to remove it from the registry. I have tried to delete
the 3 files from the Windows 2000 system32 directory. Everything just hangs
on the "PREPARING TO INSTALL" and when I try to cancel it, it does not. I
have downloaded all updates (it's SP4). I am at a loss...(without having to
reformat the system). Thanks.

Will it allow you service pack the machine? If so try reservice packing, it
often refreshes things
