Hello Dameon,

You needed to login as an adm!n.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Install Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is availªble here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803

I'd recommend re-downloading, and saving to a known location--like the
desktop.
After the download is complete, disable real-time protection by your
antivirus for long enough to do the installation. please disable or turn off
as much other software that always runs as you can--real time antivirus
scanning, any other antispyware software, (Stop all programs that are open in
the bottom taskbar) etc.
I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut.

Engel,

Sorry but you have fail to notice this error has occured on the default
administrator account, as well as all equal privledged accounts. I have also
disabled the firewall, antivirus software. I have rebooted into safe mode
and still recieved the said error, from all other postings I have already
installed the windows installer v 3.1, have run windows update and still no
luck...

I have the file on Hard drive saved to the desktop on my admin account and
my standard user account with administrative privledges. but i constantly
recieve the access denied.

Can you quote the error message precisely? Are you able to uninstall, via
Control Panel, add or remove programs--the previous version you have in
place?

It literally just says the path to the file, and Access Denied. that is all.

So--what about the second part of my question? Can you tell us what version
of Microsoft Antispyware or Windows Defender is currently on your machine?

That access denied message may indicate that a service or portion of the
program code is still running. Ways to fix this depend on which version we
are talking about--with beta1, using task manager to kill running processes
might help. With Windows Defender, stopping the app via it's interface, and
setting services to disabled, and restarting, might help.

OK - So--you had beta1, Microsoft Antispyware installed. You've now
(apparently successfully) removed that, via add or remove programs.

However, when you attempt to install Windows Defender, you get an error
message describing a particular file and path, and stating "access denied."

I think we need to see the full text of the message--exactly what file and
path is yielding this error?
