Good Morning!
I am having difficulty installing SP 4 on a WIN2K Client on my Domain. I have already updated this client with all the latest critical updates up to / including IE6SP1. When I start the SP install, it will work fine till it gets to the part where it says "checking inventory", then I receive the following message:

The file "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Connection Wizard\ icwconn1.exe" is open or in use by another application.

Close all other applications and then retry.

Retry Cancel

Note: I am using a SP4 CD I created, not the Windows Update Site(If I do, I get the same error) . I cannot go into the Connection Wizard folder, as it will not allow me access. I am logging in as the Local Admin. Any and all suggestions would be helpful and appreciated!!

Hi

You need to fix the access problem to the Connection Wizard folder before SP4 will install.

Start e.g. here:

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;EN-US;308421

For Win2k, disregard the "Simple File Sharing" part for Windows XP

I'm not familiar with your problem however, it would seem you could try
renaming that file before running the service pack.

Is icwconn1.exe running when you're installing sp4?
