After running triple-boot for at least a year, (Linux,
win2k, win98) and using grub to boot all systems, my
windows menu suddenly dissapeared from my boot-up choices.
Using fdisk from Ms's boot disk showed an empty disk, while
linux showed all partitions intact. Presuming this was the
case ( intact, I mean) I used a trick I have used in the
past -- running install on win2k until the first reboot
will usually bring the menu's back. this time, I errored
out with "hard disk error"
Strangly, I could boot to linux and access all my win98 and
win2k files; all were intact. And using
<cdrom>\i386\winnt.exe I have installed unto raw disks -
why the need for a fat or ntfs partition now?
Even after removing grub, linux and using the WD repair disk
to zero out all sectors, then installin a new windows mbr,
no microsoft system will install to this disk; in fact, i
canot now even make a primary dos partition.
Linux will install fine, so I know the disk is ok, and I
have removed linux from other disks with sucess many
times.Anyone have any clues?
