I am unable to install Windows Defender. I'm running XP Pro SP2. and Zone
Alarm Pro. All my high priority updates are current. I had previously
installed Microsoft AntiSpyware.

I get the following error during install -

'The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable. Click Ok to try again or enter an alternatet path to the folder
containing the installation package Microsoft AntiSpyware.msi' in the box
below. Use source C:\\WINDOWS]Downloaded
Installations\(0F5BF-410-4D79-4DBE-AF54-C3271D47D4BD)

I can't find this file anywhere.

I then downloaded the program to my desk top and receive the following error -

'The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Bill Davidson\Desktop\Windows Defender
Install.msi is not a valid installation package for this product Microsoft
AntiSpyware. Try to find the installation package for this product Microsoft
AntiSpyware'

After clicking OK the recieve the following -

'The older version of Window Defender cannot be removed. Contact your
technical support group'

Since this is my home office computer, I am the technical support group.

Can someone help me install this product properly?

Here's what I'd try first:

Go to www.filehippo.com and search on either Microsoft antispyware or
Windows Defender. You should find a page with the current, and many previous
versions of this set of products available.

Download build 701? of Microsoft Antispyware and run the download to install
over your current installation. If that succeeds, then go ahead and re-try
the Windows Defender install.

Excellent, I was afraid that it might not--there are other measures to try,
but they have side effects which are well worth avoiding. Thanks for
letting me know.
