Standard Win Xp Pro install upgraded to SP2
Now i cannot install any items from add/remove windows components
Setup of any item will progress to a point where the file needed cannot be
located... so i locate the file on the xp pro cd, whereupon the setup cannot
copy (i am logged on as admin and have not changed my permissions), i can get
through some installations by canceling the copy, however many components do
not function

the cd is fine, there is no driver problem with the cd drive etc, all the
hardware is A-OK, this is a software issue.

I would hope i do not have to reinstall windows for this (and btw the
suggestion to roll back to sp1 is INSANE - this does not work on any PC with
even the remotest modifications)

Thanks in advance, James Masters

XP is in three flavors: original, w/SP1, and w/SP2. What version is the CD
versus what is installed?

The problem COULD be the fact you've installed SP2 but are trying to install
something from the SP1 or the original CD.

You could slipstream the SP1 or original CD with the SP2 download and burn
your own SP2 CD that may, then, not have the problem.

A Google search will provide info on slipstreaming.

Thanks for your reply Jerry,

yes this is xp pro sp1 slipstreamed with sp2, and i can verify that it works
properly on full installs.
