Cannot insert sound (3rd request for help)

Whenever I try to insert sound into my slide show, I get
the error messege, "PowerPoint couldn't insert a sound
from the selected file.)

I have tried different slides and created a new slide show
with the same result.

When I first started my latest project, I was able to
insert sound but "right" clicked the sound icon and
removed it. Since that time, the above problem exists.

I am working with PP 2000 SR-1 (9.0.5519)
