I am just about sick to death of all this Microsoft s**t software they
keep churning out - with all its problems and bugs. Unfortunately,
I've no choice at present but to use the stuff....

Basically, I've just upgraded the operating system on my PC from
Win2000 to XP and the other day, I exported all my e-mail and contact
etc to a .pst file and burned it onto a DVD. Having installed Office
XP on the fresh installation, every time I try and import the .pst
file into Outlook in order to get back all my e-mail and contacts,
Outlook crashed each time with "Microsoft Outlook has encountered a
problem and needs to close". I run my own business and its vital that
I get back this e-mail ASAP. Can anybody offer my any help please? I
have installed all the patches the Microsoft update site has thrown
up.

Many thanks,

Dan

Well considering the fact that your data is business-critical, you didn't do
any research before proceeding, did you? Posted in this and all the other
Outlook newsgroups many times daily - do NOT use the Import/Export function
to transfer data from one Outlook to another. All you need to do is close
Outlook, copy the pst file onto your external source, upgrade, copy the pst
file back to the HD and open it in outlook.

Are you trying to open the file from the DVD? have you got a recent backup?
(Exporting the data while Outlook was still open may have corrupted the
file...)
