Cannot hear or play music on websites

When I go to websites that have music playing in the background, the music
doesn't play on my computer. And I've visited websites that have an image
for a player where you can play music, but the image won't even show up for
me on the webpage. I just get a circle, triangle, and square shape in a box.
Is there something I can do to fix this?

Hi Rachel :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, I'll try a very
wild guesses. You might try the following and see if it will help:

1. Can't hear sounds on some sites
http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips-pr.php/662

also…..

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced Tab>
Scroll down to the Multimedia and make sure the"Play sound on web pages" is
checked.

Go to Control panel>Sounds and Media>Devices
Click the + sign in the box beside midi devices and instruments>click on
each item in this list(one at the time)>click properties and insure that the
circle beside use midi features on the device is checked.Don't click on the
second set of + signs or the properties box will not enable.

You should also undate your sound drivers.

Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware tab
Under the Drivers section, click on Windows Update to be sure you have the
latest drivers for your version of Windows.

2. Images don't show:

Check your HOSTS file (no extension).
If you are not sure of the location, do a Search for HOSTS

Close all instances of IE
Rename the HOSTS (e.g. HOSTS.OLD or SAV)
Launch IE and see if the images appear

You can download a HOSTS File Manager here:
http://www.aldostools.com/hosts.html

also..

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer

Display problems with IE are most commonly caused by video drivers that need
updating. Go to the web site of your video card manufacturer and get the
latest drivers for your card. As a work around, try turning down your
hardware acceleration, color depth, and/or screen resolution. If these
work, then new drivers are in order.

Other causes are scripting engines that need reinstalled or updated:

Or the Java VM:
