Cannot get WPA2-PSK support in XP Home

Hello!

I just had an encounter with an XP Home SP2 system that would not support
WPA2-PSK, even after installing the
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917021/en-us update that replaces the old
893357 WPA2 fix.

I tried 893357 first since I was unaware that it had been replaced. I
rebooted, and still had no support for WPA2. I could see the
C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB893357$ folder and there were no errors during its
installation. I wanted to remove it so I could install the newer one,
917021, and it was not listed in Add/Remove Programs. I had to go to the
registry to find its uninstall string and remove it by running the string.

I installed 917021 without error messages, rebooted, and it was the same
result. The C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB917021$ folder is there, I see it in
the registry, but there is still no WPA2 support. I used the 893357 fix on
another system that had XP Pro SP2 and it worked fine.

Any ideas why this pig will not take the 893357 or 917021 updates?

Thank you for helping!

Gregg Hill

Duh. Right after I hit Send, I thought about the laptop wireless card
firmware. I never even thought to check it. I will do that next week.

Sorry.
