Deb,

This maybe an adware thing.

Here is what I would do.

1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc open the hosts file with
Notepad. If you have andother version of Windows you may need to
replace 'WINNT' with 'WINDOWS'. This file should look something like
this:

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host
name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least
one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on
individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

2. Make sure there are no other entried after the 127.0.0.1
localhost
3. Go to http://www.spywareguide.com.
4. Click on Tools
5. Click on Free Online Scanner
6. Allow the ActiveX control to load and install x-cleaner.
7. Run x-cleaner
8. After it is done uninstall x-cleaner.
9. Retry visiting the website. See if you are still forwarded to
the
ads page.
10. Open IE go to Tools->Internet Options->Programs->Manager Ad-Ons.
11. In here disable any program which you think looks suspicious.
If
you have google, yahoo, etc these are well known but Spywareboot or
any application that has no publisher should be disabled.

I hope this helps.

Does that really get opened or is that just what is showing in the Address bar?
Even if appears to open you should press Ctrl-F5 in case it is only a cached copy.

In any case that can be a symptom that your DNS isn't working properly.
Try using ping -n 1 (in a cmd window) to prove that your DNS is working.
We don't care if the ping itself gets a response or not, just that the lookup
it does gets done. BTW doing this before trying to open a site with IE
can improve your chances of IE opening a page successfully.

HTH
