I have a folder on the desktop which keeps coming back and I cant fund out
at what point it comes back. I delete it and at some point it's there again.
Doesnt have to be a restart.

Anyone know how I can fix this? I just want to get rid of it

Try booting into Safe Mode (f8 during boot) and deleting it.

If it keeps reappearing it may be being remade by an application.

What is this folder's name? It may give a clue...

Use SysInternal's Filemon to see what process is doing a Create on the
folder.

FileMon and Regmon are no longer available for download. They have been
replaced by Process Monitor on versions of Windows starting with Windows
2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Vista.

I found process monitor quite difficult to use. I often decide against
monitoring because of the hassle of setting it up.

File Monitor won't run for me on my Vista machine. When I try, I get a
pop-up box that tells me to download Process Monitor.

Actually that means FileMon *did* run. Otherwise, it couldn't spew out
a message telling you about Process Monitor. I've never seen that
message, however, but then maybe it was a one-time message, much like
the one-time message on first load to accept their terms and thereafter
you don't see this message again. I'm not sure how Filemon would even
know about software that was released later. Pulling my leg, are you?

I thought Filemon went dead in 2006. The datestamp at Softpedia is in
2007, so maybe the wrapper around that copy of Filemon gives you the
warning. From where did you get the copy of Filemon that you says knows
about ProcMon (that didn't exist until later)? I also have the 7.04
version listed at Softpedia but I downloaded it back when it was still
listed at SysInternals.

It ran only long enough to trigger the message and close down. RegMon
does the same thing. Same thing happens with Windows 7. If you call

I have version 7.04 that I downloaded from the Sysinternals site years
ago.

I assume it's the OS or some other component that's programmed to know
about Filemon and Regmon and display the message, not Filemon in of
itself. Maybe it's one of those "Application compatibility" updates.

Are you claiming that you can successfully run Filemon in Vista?
