I have 2 computers and 3 email accounts (one POP3 and two IMAP).
My desktop is running Outlook 2003 and is fine
My laptop is running Outlook 2007. I cannot access my IMAP accounts on the
laptop, though I can send messages fine.

When I click on the inbox I get a message saying: "The messaging interface
has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart outlook", and
a second pop up saying "Failed to update headers".

If I click on the + sign alongside inbox to see the other folders I get a
message saing "cannot expand the folder"

I have tried deleting the relevant accounts and then recreating them - and
everything seems to be fine until i close outlook. When I restart it I get
the same problem.

I have no problems with my POP3 account nor any with the calendar, BCM or
any other aspect of Outlook - it is just the inability to obtain new or view
previously received messages

Verify with the mail provider that you are using the correct account settings
(server names and ports, encryption, and root folder path).

I have double checked settings
They are also the same as oin my desktop where i have no problems at all.
And when recreating accounts in 2007 it works fine until I close outlook - so
the settings are correct.

Does it operate OK again after a reboot? When you close Outlook, use the Task
Manager to make sure it closes completely by looking for OUTLOOK.EXE on the
Processes tab. You shouldn't see it.

No, rebooting in the way you describe does not make a difference. It only
works for a period after recreating the actual account in Outlook.
Thanks
