Hi there.

In my home network I encounter the following strange issue. But first
my network setup:

A.1 Notebook with up-to-date Windows XP Pro
A.2 PC with that same OS

B Router (AVM Fritz.Box)

C Cabel Modem

with A.1 & A.2 <-> B <-> C <-> ISP. Now, the strange thing happening is
that from A.2 I can connect to any FTP server via any client I have
just fine, but from A.1 I cannot. The only protocol I find ist this
from the FTP client called "FTP Transport"

21.09.2006 18:36:03.745 Connection with ftp.rrze.uni-erlangen.de:21
21.09.2006 18:36:03.965 Connection with 131.188.3.71:21
21.09.2006 18:36:03.985 Socket connected, waiting for welcome messege
21.09.2006 18:36:03.985 An existing connection was forcibly closed by
the remote host.

It seams that with all ftp clients the connection gets closed forcibly
by the server on A.2 only. It's still the same with all firewalls that
I'm aware of switched off (AVM's Protect, Windows own and the check at
the Cisco VPN Client at the taskbar icon is missing).

I'm thankfull for any suggestions or ideas of what might be the reason.

Cheers,
Björn.

What ftp client are you using on failing PC? And is it set for Passive
Mode? Does you Server accept non-Passive Mode?

Hi NewScience.

Thanks for your answer.

Besides that I tested the command line ftp, opera and IE. All clients'
configurations regarding FTP have not been changed, i.e. are as
"out-of-the-box". In IE that means set to passive mode. For others I
don't know unfortunatelly. But they don't differ from the ones on the
working machine as they are out-of-the-box, too.

For the server I'm not sure if it accepts passive mode. But I don't
think that this is the problem beacuse it's an university server and,
mainly, because I observe this behaviour with many, in numbers about
20-30 servers.

Also, and this is way I need it working, I use the update client of
mixtex 2.5 which relies on diverse FTP mirrors around the wourld they
all seem to kick the client.

Cheers,
Björn.
