Cannot get DVD/CD Rom to auto play

I want to have dvds or cds placed in the computer to auto play, but for some reason it never does. I checked to make sure disable auto play is off, so I should get propmts as soon as a DVD or CD is placed in the computer asking me what info it is and what to do, but I never get that prompt. It used to work, can anyone help?
