Cannot get to desktop with my icons - automatically logs me off

When I try to get into my computer and I click on the icon for my account (as
opposed to my husband or daughter), it will state that it is loading my
information. However, it either instantly switches to "logging off" OR it
will bring up my desktop picture, but no icons or anything else. Then it will
say "logging off". I tried going into the computer via safe mode, but the
same thing happened. I tried doing F8 and clicking "last good configuration",
but the same thing happened again.

(I'm able to post here because I'm using my daughter's computer.)

Any suggestions?

Whenever you ask a question about Windows XP, we need to know what
version of XP you have, including the service pack.

Do you have any ideas about what might have caused this problem? We'll
need to know that as well.

Sounds like your profile is corrupted.

Log in to an account that has Administrator permissions and copy all
your documents, pictures, etc. to another location. Then delete and
re-create your account.

The method for copying your email and address book depends on what email
program you are using.

Hi,

This is caused by a registry error: sometimes as a result of a malware
infection, sometimes just 'cos windows felt like it. See:
