Hi All

I am trying to install a fresh Win XP Pro onto my Toshiba 2805-S402
from an OEM/Academic CD. XP has been on this computer in the past. I
have FDISK'd all existing partitions and am starting from the CD via
direct boot on CD. In setup I again delete any partitions (there are
actually none showing), choose to create a single partition and format
that partition with NTFS (not quick even though I have tried this
too). Setup formats to about 20%, hangs for a sec, then goes 100% and
says it fails and cannot format the drive. I have run Norton NDD
surface scan, no problems. I can format this drive with win98, no
problem.

What gives? Any ideas?

I have also upgraded to the latest Toshiba bios, no help. And check
bios for any ide specific issues, no dice.

Ugh

Ensure the CD disk is absolutely clean. No dust, fingerprints etc. I have
exactly the same notebook and XP Pro clean installed with zero problems.
They work perfectly together.... although you'll probably need to go to the
Toshiba website after you do have it installed correctly to get the Smart
Media Bus Controller driver (for the smart media card reader, under the
combo CDR/DVD drive).
