Configure XP as an Interest Connection Sharing host, as shown here:

Configure Windows 2000 as an ICS client as shown here:

It isn't strictly necessary, but it will make networking a little
easier if you set 2000's workgroup name to MSHOME to match XP.
Disable and un-install all firewall programs on both computers while
troubleshooting the network.
