Hi there I've read your previous responses to this question. I've tried to
run sfc, however, it keeps coming up with a box asking me what programme I
want to use to open the file. In fact, all my programmes are doing that....
Can anyone please help...

Thanks
judith

How are you running any programs?

There's usually a virus or trojan involved when the association for .EXE
files gets messed up. Check the system thoroughly with an antivirus program
that is using current virus definitions.

For fixing the EXE problem, see MVP Doug Knox's page:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
Directions for using these fixes (you want the one for EXE files) are at
the top of that page.
