I brought up SYSTEM and delete the mouse so I could re-install it. The
wheel scroll function was not working and I thought I could re-install the
driver and get the wheel to scroll again.

OK, when I hit delete, the "mouse" got removed from the hardware list. I
then brought up the add/remove hardware wizard. It could not find anything
on its own. I then brought up the "Choose a Hardware Device". Cant find
mice on it, nor any type of pointing device. I then selected "Add a new
device" and there are no mice in that list. It could find one on its own
and when I select "No, I want to select the hardware from a list" the list
has no mice or pointing device. If I select "other" and look thru
manufacturers, there are two entries for Microsoft, neither of those two
entries shows my Microsoft optical wheel mouse.

Surely there is some way to get the wheel to get recognzed without rebooting
the system? Is there any program I can run to cause the mouse to get
re-activated? I know it is possible because I can easily plug in a USB
wheel mouse and it starts working withing seconds. I cannot do that on a
KVM switch where the mouse is PS/2.

This problem seems to be caused by a KVM switch. If I set the KVM switch to
the system BEFORE it powers up then the wheel works. The other systems are
then missing the wheel scroll function in the off-chance they power up at
the same time. This is really aggravating when you are a developer and have
Visual Studio 2003, 2005 and that old "6" on three different systems. There
are only a few dual monitor KVM's available so it is not like I can go and
get a better one.

You post is quite cryptic but be advised they dropped universal scroll
support built into Intellipoint somewhere after version 4.x leaving the
software developers to provide native scroll support built in to the
application. Office 2003 was released with no native scroll built into the
VBA IDE. Go figure.

This may help. it works great for VB6 and in office VBA development
environment.
