When I go to the Remote Tab in System properties, I can't see the Allow
users to connect remotely from this computer checkbox, or even the Remote
Desktop altogether??!! I am puzzled, as I have Windows XP Home Edition.
Please respond

XP Home can *NOT* act as a Remote Desktop host. You need to use an
alternative like UltraVNC instead. Get the server, client, encryption
plug-in and XP video driver from...

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

You answered your own question.
You have Windows XP Home Edition.
Windows XP Home Edition only has Remote Assistance.

You cannot use Windows XP Home Edition as the host/server for Remote
Desktop - it is not included.
You must have Windows XP Professional or super-set version (for the versions
of XP) in order to utilize Remote Desktop.
Windows XP Home Edition is the only version of Windows XP where Remote
Desktop is NOT an option.
(Out of the 5 versions.)

You can either upgrade to Windows XP Professional or use a free utility like
UltraVNC to install a server on your Windows Xp Home Edition system.

Since I don't even HAVE the Remote tab, despite using Windows XP
Professional, I found that you can use TeamViewer from
http://www.teamviewer.com/index.aspx which has a free version for non
commercial use which is SOOOOO easy to set up and use one wonders why one
even bothers with microsoft stuff. The free version does have restrictions
though: no longer than 30 minutes at a time and max 10 hrs per month.
Cheers,
