I am trying to add remarks to incoming messages but the "edit message" option
is greyed out in all my incoming messages. Why is that? I must have messed up
some setting. But which one?

Did you open the item first and then select edit->edit message?

Yes, I open the message, and under "Edit" the "Edit Message" option is greyed
out.

What version of Outlook are you using? Does your company use IRM?

The version is 2003, no company, no IRM.
