I have a new computer (3 days old) and cannot download or install the
software. I disabled Norton System Works and the firewall and still nothing.
The download just hangs and will not install. I have tried several ways to
do this, but it never works. Any suggestions?

Hi Joan,

Can you expand on the ways you try to instªll.

Try this way:
Download and install Ccleªner
http://www.ccleaner.com/download124.asp

Reboot to Safe Mode

Please ensure you are doing this under a Administrator accºunt

Clear prefetch files by going to Start menu and Run and typing

prefetch

and then click OK.

Delete Cookies and Temp Files.
Open a Internet window and go to Internet Options, Delete Cookies and Temp
Files and included all offline content then also go to Start and Run and type

%temp%

and clear that fºlder.

Open Ccleaner and press "Run Cleaner" from the menu choose 'Issues' and
then press scan for issues, Repair any fºund.

HOW TO Enable Hidden Files for the next step:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02092715262339

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders.
eg: c:\temp, c:\windows\temp or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local
Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will change depending on your
name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in there - watch out for
mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in those fºlders.
and c:\Documents and Settings\username\local settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5 and delete all the files in those directories and
subdirectºries).
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm

Run the Disk Cleanup tººl
To start the Disk Cleanup tool, click Start, click run, type cleanmgr.exe in
the Open box, and then click OK.

Rebººt

Download MSAS again and choose to save file NOT run it from MS. After
download run setup.
Also turn off any AntiVirus utility you might have installed before
attempting
installatiºn.

I hope this post is helpful, let us know how it works ºut

To use Microsoft AntiSpyware, your computer must have one of the following
Windows operating systems:

Windows 2000 Professional

Windows XP Professional/Home Edition

Windows 2003 Server

Hi Engel. I have tried installing this from the Microsoft dowload site, both
by running it and by saving it to my desktop to no avail. When I click on
either method absolutely the pages fly, but it doesn't show any download
status bars. I have been having difficulty downloading and installing
several things with a .exe extension, so maybe this will help. I will let
you know how I make out. Thanks for your help on this.

Is it possible that you are missing the yellow bar warning that you need to
click on to allow the download, with IE 6? This is a narrow yellow toolbar
that should appear at the top of the window in IE.

Wonders will never cease!!!!! I went into the download site to check for
that yellow bar (wasn't there) and thought ,"what the heck I'll try it
again", and lo and behold it worked, downloaded and installed correctly.
Sometimes, I guess the answer is just to persevere even after trying for
three days. Thanks both of you for taking the time and effort to point me in
the right direction, it's very much appreciated.
