My daughter took some pictures with a Canon A590 and a SD card. This car has
worked fine for the past year or so. When she went to download the images in
her computer, a number of images from two dates in August were not there
while others had a big yellow ? over the image position.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Would recuva or any other
software be able to read the SD card from the camera via the USB cable or
should I get a card reader ?

Any help is appreciated.

A card reader is often best. Then try data recovery software
