Cannot download ActiveX controls - all ENABLED

I have a problem with dowenloading an ActiveX control. I
have set all zones to Low security and verified that the
ActiveX download, etc are all set to ENABLE.

However, I still get the message: Your current security
settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls
installed on your computer....

We have re-installed IE several times.

Current versions: IE Version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm
(SP2)
Windows XP Pro SP2 installed.

Anyone have any suggestions?

This is an intranet site, incidentally. But, local IT
wants to format the drive... not my idea of a good time.

Hi Derek :-)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Active x Errors and Settings:

For best security set Active X settings to:
Prompt
Disable
Disable
Prompt
Prompt

or.....

Disable the LMZ lockdown of SP2:

To allow any Website to run Scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer:

To totally disable the Local Machine Zone restriction (for running Active
Content) (not recommended, though) for valid reasons, read below:

Open Internet Explorer
Tools> Internet Options
On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list.
Select the 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer'
Check the box next to it
Click OK.

To accomplish this via the Registry, modify the following registry value:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN (should be all on
one line)

In the right-pane, create a new REG_DWORD named iexplore.exe and set it to
0

Values:

0 - Allows a Webpage to run active content in your computer
1 - Disallows a Webpage from running active content in your computer

To allow any CD to run Scripts and ActiveX controls on your computer:

Open Internet Explorer
Tools>Internet Options
On the Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section of the list
Select the 'Allow active content from CDs to run on My Computer'
Check the box next to it
Click OK
or

Check for bogus files in Active X Controls

You can check the following concerning ActiveX components trying to reach
defunct servers. If these particular ones don't show up, check for any
other anomalous entries:

Take a look in %SYSTEMDRIVE%\%SystemRoot%\Downloaded Program Files (these
are ActiveX components), and see if you have something there called Tracker
Class. If so, right click and click Remove (don't just delete it). This is
a hi-jack program that's trying to reach a server that's no longer working,
so it hangs up.

There are some others that are similar in effect also, so if you don't have
Tracker Class, right click on each thing in this folder then select
Properties. The Codebase line will often give you a clue as to where
something came from. If it looks like it might not belong, try Remove.
Things like Sun Java Runtimes and Macromedia stuff like Shockwave or Apple
Quicktime are normal, so use some judgment about what you eliminate. Mostly
you'll be asked to re-download them if you Remove something that's actually
needed.

Also check in Add-Remove Programs for Surfchoice 1.1 and remove it. It is
also tracker software to a defunct server.

Additional important information about removing ActiveX controls is in the
following Microsoft articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q240797
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q154850

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Derek :-)

Try setting your security setting to Low and see if that helps:

Tools>Internet Options>Security tab>Custom Level> on in the ActiveX Control
and plug-ins section heading, then in the Reset to window, change the
selection to Low

Check 'Enable' for all the the sections under the ActiveX Controls and
plug-ins

Under Scripting:

Be sure all 'Enable' boxes at checked

Then click OK

Go to the Advanced tab>Microsoft VM section:

Check the box next to JIT compiler for visual machine enabled (requires
restart)
Click ok

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hey I'm having the exact same problem but it seems that nothing wants to work
It just keeps giving me the same message. I have tried the advanced options
and the option I need to check isn't there and I get the Your current
security settings do not allow Web sites to use ActiveX controls installed on
your computer....message everytime. Without this I can't use windows update
and keep my computer running smoothly any solutions would be much obliged
