I just recently re-installed W2k (Originally ME, but not
for long)on my Compaq 5104US. After re-installing all the
latest drivers I tranferred my ISP dial-up settings and
went online. I can close IE without a problem. However,
when I try to disconnect it never does. I need to either
unplug the phone line or reboot the computer. Also, if I
right-click the connection and choose "Properties" I get
an "Unexpected Error" message. I have a feeling this might
be hardware related. Any comments or advice would be
helpful. Thank you.

You could check modem drivers, on Compaq site, perhaps also uninstall modem
and reinstall
