Cannot Disable XP Firewall - No Connection Properties Dialog Box

Hello,

We enabled the Firewall provided with Windows XP. We
then purchased a Norton Security CD to install their
Antivirus and Firewall. The instructions told us to
disable the XP Firewall before installing the Norton CD
because it interferes with the performance of the Norton
Software. However, after invoking Network Connections
from the Control Panel, and selecting and right-clicking
the Internet Dialup connection which America-On-Line, the
Connection Properties Dialog Box does not appear, so we
cannot disable the Firewall.

We try doing the above while logged on as an
administrator, and while not connected to the Internet.
Does anyone know why the Connection Properties Dialog Box
does not appear for the internet connection, or how to
make it appear, or how to disable the XP Firewall?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank You,

Marie

Try this,

Click start; run & type mmc.exe enter
In the file menu of this program select add/remove snap-in
press the add button & double click the Group policy setting.
Click ok; It should autoselect your local computer; press finish
press close; press ok.

Now open the following hierarchy.

Computer Settings/Administrative Templates/Network/Network
Connections

Then double click "Prohibit use of Internet Connection Firewall on your
DNS domain network" and select disable.

Close the mmc.exe (you don't need to save it when it asks for it)
Reboot

This option determines whether users can enable the Internet Connection
Firewall
feature on a connection, and if the Internet Connection Firewall
service can run on a computer.

Good luck.

AOL will have already disabled the XP firewall as the two are NOT
compatible.. AOL has a tendency to take ownership of systems, and doesn't
feel the need to tell you that it has done so..
