cannot disable scheduled scans

after I check the "disable schedule" and then click
on "update schedule " -- it takea long time and then multip
[le copies of the icon in the system tray start to appear
and then eventually the program does say " schedule has
been updated BUT BUT !! the box I had previously checked
to disable the schedule is now uncheked and the schedule
is not disabled !! This is on a windows 2000 proffesional
machine . HELP!!!
I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times -- same results
