I cannot dial out with XP Home. There is a long, long pause before an error
appears. There is no sound through the speakers.

However, if I use Hyperterminal directly to Com3 I can dial OK, complete
with all the sounds, so the modem itself is fine.

I have tried another modem, USB, with exactly the same result as using the
original internal PCI modem.
Full virus scan, adaware scan and Spybot scan show no problems.

I guess something is haywire within XP. What needs reinstalling, and how do
I uninstall it first?
