This is blocking all messages, both new and reply messages and is therefore
urgent that I fix this. the error message is " an unknown error has
occurred".

Go to the outbox directory in Windows Explorer. The location will be:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders\Outbox

and with WinMail closed delete all the files.

Then try repairing the database.

Run the cmd prompt as Admin and copy and then in there

esentutl /p "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows
Mail\windowsmail.msmessagestore"

Fill in the %USERPROFILE% to match your profile (e.g. c:\users\nrc)

Then reopen WinMail and see if that fixes it.

I did as instructed (I think) The first part of instructions was no problem
and I deleted 1 file (only one in outbox - all others had been deleted)
The 2nd part - cmd prompt. I did do this ( copied your email from
"esentutl /p to windowsmail.msmessagestore" and got an error message
"failed with Jet error -1032".... opertation terminated with error 1032
(Jet_errFileAccessDenied, Cannot access file, the file is locked or in use)
after 30.77 seconds. "

I did not use admin (did not know where that was to be used)

The command prompt was and is "C:\Users\nancy>"

Make sure Windows Mail is closed when you do it.

Close WinMail as Frank indicates. Then try it. If you get the same error
either reboot and try again, or do a CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and end task Winmail.exe
in Task Manager and then try it again.

Then you will have to delete the database files in the message store
directory. Delete the windowsmail.msmessagestore file completely and then
you will start fresh. The messages will still be in the subdirectories.
See how that does.

This did not work either. Can I just delete the mail program and reinstall?
If so how would I go about this? and can I save the messages and the
contacts? If so how do I save them (without saving the stuck outgoing
message)

I continue to have this problem but fiqured a backward way of still being
able to send mail. I deleted my email account and reentered the information.
The item that can not be delteted is still there but I am able to send email
now. You need to remember that after you do this when a "pop up" box opens
click no in sending this email. Now everytime you send email this popup box
will pop up again and click "no" again.
