I am having the same problem! I called Gateway, my internet provider, and
Microsoft the other day and no one was able to help me. Gateway said they
didn't deal with email, internet provider said it was a program problem and I
should call Microsoft. Microsoft said since VISTA was installed on the
computer when I bought it I would have to call Gateway! I did chat with
someone on line from Gateway but after he tried to fix it he told me I just
needed to uninstall and reinstall VISTA. I really don't want to loose
everything on my computer. I've only had the computer for 1 month and am
very frustrated! I'm not a "computer person" so if someone knows how to fix
it...keep it simple! ;o)

First thing is to remove McAfee or Norton AV and antispam from the computer
if they exist. You may need to visit their website to fully uninstall the
product. Then get something less invasive. There are a number of free
antivirus programs, but with any, you have to disable email scanning. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

After that, the only solution so far is to wipe out the message database.
So go to
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

<<I have a message in my outbox...error occurred...>>

Allyson, Caryn - Many have apparently encountered a similar issue. MS
thinking is that the root cause is unknown but there is a band-aid fix which
requires minor rework to your installation - no one is recommending to
reinstall Vista for this. Check thru this site in other threads, I've made
some comments - u can search on my screen name as one way.

Basically MS recommends deleting the main "Windows Mail" folder after you
save your e-mail info. then recopy back in after restarting WinMail since
these folders are regenerated clean. If you can't find the process, check
back here.
