I run an IIS-based FTP server on a Lacie network drive (Windows XP
Embedded). The latest update for some reason forced the security on the FTP
server to allow anonymous connections to the server!!! Although the hackers
were unable to access the folders due to security restrictions on the
folders, they have created quite a bunch of undeletable folders at the root
and started
pushing their junk (movies and MP3s) toward these folders.

Now I cannot delete these folders... Any idea how I can go ahead and trash
these folders anyway?

Hmm, didn't know LaCie had XPe devices. Can you point me to a link of the
device in question so I know what we're talking about here?

Logged in as an administrator you can gain control of any folder. If it's an
NTFS volume, right click on the root of the folder or the folders
themselves, select properties, click the Security tab. You can see who has
what privaleges to the root, also clicking the advanced button you can force
permissions down to any child objects and ensure all future child objects
inherit any new permissions you set. Lastly you can also see an 'owners'
tab, you can take ownership of any folder and replace the owner on all
subcontainers and objects.

Hi Nicolas,

To avoid anonymous users to access your shared folders make sure that you do
not assign the everyone group to any of the shares and that the Guest account
is disabled. (disabled by default)
The recommendations for the LaCie Ethernet Disk is to use it on a secured
network. If you need to access the disk over the Internet you should access
your network using a VPN connection or any other secured connection.
Note: All the "public" shares are listed on the main web page.

Most likely the reason why you cannot delete the folder(s) is because the
files are in use by some other user(s) on the network. Restart all the
protocols from the Status tab to disconnect all users and then delete the
folder(s).
Alternatively, you can also use the restore CD to completely restore the
system.
