this is my first so cut some slack. norton anti-virus
shows a file infected with trojan dropper, but norton can
not repair, delete or isolate the file. I have run
norton scan in safe mode and disabled the system restore
file along with the rest of the norton proceedures. I
have instructed norton to scan compressed files. Norton
scan says "i have a trojan dropper in a compressed file
installer _george_test.exe withi C:\documents and
settings\client\local settings.

how can I get rid of this virus? thanking you in advance

We had this problem too and it has now been fixed.
Reboot your computer in safe mode under XP.
When up to the login screen, select the ADMINISTRATOR
account.Go in and run the Virus Scanning Software. Set
your options to delete virus files that are found.

When you are done, navigate to the path that you gave in
your earlier post or the one that you recorded as being
where the file that wouldn't delete was located. If that
file is still in that folder, you should be able to
manually delete it because you are the ADMINISTRATOR.

Just because you have Administrator rights when you log in
(presumably) does not mean that you are the ADMINISTRATOR
of the machine. ONLY ADMINISTRATOR of the machine can
delete files that are stored in folders that do
not "belong" to you. The giveaway was the folder
called "client" in the documents and Settings folder.

Hope that helps.
