I have a similar problem to so many other users. I have tried all suggestions
I could find and still have nearly 400 emails in my Deleted Items folder
which will not go away. If you look at the actual directory, the emails are
no longer there, but if you look in Windows Mail, they are. I need a solution
that will work as this drives me crazy. How come Microsoft has not fixed it
yet? There are plenty of users with this problem and it is by no means a new
problem.

In a way, Microsoft *has* fixed it, by bringing out the new and improved
Windows Live Mail, said to be a replacement for Windows Mail:

Thank you - at least it solved the problem.

I've just switched to Windows Mail within the past week, and I have already
encountered the problem.

Is there anything that tells you how to properly convert from Windows Mail
to Windows Live Mail? Does it use your existing contacts, or do they have to
be converted?

Is there any info on when Windows Live Mail will become a supported product?

Windows Live Mail should automatically import your WM email
accounts, settings, emails, and contacts.
MS reps are currently actively assisting with issues and seeking input
in the WLM newsgroup, something you sure can't say about this (WM)
newsgroup.

There's no telling when WLM's final version will be released. I'm
guessing about the same time as Vista's SP1, maybe November.

I have posted this several times now.Hope people are seeing it and getting
their problem fixed as i did.The frustration with vista continues.... Go to
Start and select search/advanced search...in Location:type EVERYWHERE,,,in
NAME:type windowsmail.msmessagestore....Select:"include non-indexed,hidden
and system files....your search will produce two files...delete those
files.noten occassion more that two files will be found but ONLY two will
allow you to delete them. This should solve your problem and allow you to use
e-mail .

If one uses this 'fix', you are likely to be plagued by recurring generation of
"Recovered Mail" folders each time you start Windows Mail. I know because
it happened to me.
