I can't delete email messages from Outlook, nor can I move them to the
"delete" file. Appreciate suggestions in as non-technical language as
possible.

Thanks so much for any help.

Are you referring to Outlook, part of Microsoft Office (version?), or
Outlook Express (version?)?

Jon, it is Outlook Express 6--I believe it is part of Microsoft Office, the
package that came with the computer when we purchased it (within the year).
Is there a way to ascertain for sure?

Interestingly, I sent a message to my son (who is in computer security) and
he has never heard of this problem. Leave it to me to invent a new problem.

Any assistance you can give me will be most gratefully received.

Thanks

In the mail program that's causing your problem, go to Help...About to see
what program you are using.

Differences between Outlook and Outlook Express

If you are using OE6....

Post this issue to an OE6 specific newsgroup:

OE General newsgroup:

If OE6, then it's probably a damaged outbox.dbx file that is causing your
problem:

How to find that folder:

I followed your instructions, and this is exactly what I saw there. Hope
this is the answer!

Outlook Express 6
6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp __sp2 __rtm.040803-2158)

Copyrighted by microsoft 2004. I keep getting a message: can't connect to
smtp after 60 seconds, then a verizon message pops up stating that there is a
problem, and that I should click "repair now"--and then, when I do this, it
connects to "quick support", and after a few minutes, reports an error and
that it won't go through. I tried what someone suggested: installled
Firefox, to see if my Verizon email can be accessed there--and initially, all
seemed well. Now, today I am getting a message there about not being able to
connect to server, although I can delete messages there.

Situation has changed, in that now I can delete SOME email messages --
usually after 5-6, no more will delete--and one persistently will NOT delete
or move, no matter how often I try. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Thanks
for any suggestions,

CAH

Your Deleted Items.dbx file for OE may be corrupted or damaged. See this
site for where to find it:
http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm Close OE, delete that file, and
when you start OE again, it will be automatically recreated as empty. Sorry
for not getting back to you sooner - I lost track of this thread.

If you are still having problems, post this issue to the OE newsgroup:

Followed the suggested link--and confess that about 1/5 of it made sense to
me. At least I think I might be on the trail of the problem! Do you
recommend use of the registry cleaners on the left of the page? Seems like
they should address the problem--if I am correct. Are there dangers inherent
in using them? There is one particular email that simply will NOT delete,
nor move, no matter what action taken. Others--sporadic. I'm also taking
all the email subscriptions out of Outlook that are not regularly used.
Simplify a bit.

Thank you so much for your response.
