I am hoping that someone can offer some additional suggestions to cure a
problem that I am having on my W2k server.
On my W2000 Server, I have a directory that I cannot delete no matter what I
try.
I am logging in as administrator and this is what I've tried:
1. Made no difference: Removing and reinstating security and ownership.
2. dir /x. It is not one of those trick directories that hackers create.
No files contained within.
3. No workee: rd "" /s and del xxx don't help.
4. Per David Wang's suggestion, I used Process Explorer to see if the file
handle was in use. It was not.
I ran chkdsk (without switches) and got a ton of 'deleting orphan files' as
well as other errors. I also got 'deleting index entry xxxx' messages. I was
going to run chkdsk /f but I read a posting by Jerold Schulman warning of
its use under W2K leading to deletion of security descriptors. Not to
mention that I would hate to bring down the server for an extended period.
Some odd things about this directory:
1. I can rename it with no problem.
2. I can copy it elsewhere and delete it with no problem.
3. I can add files and subdirectories to it. If I do this then try to delete
the directory, the files and subdirectories within are deleted but the
parent 'offending' directory remains!
I am convinced that it is some type of corruption, please Advise. Thank you.

P.S. The HD was fragmented bigtime. I'm in the process of defrag using
DiskKeeper 9 but it is an extremely slow process. Unfortunately, I cannot
afford to have the server offline to do a faster defrag.
